Do I need additional computer applications?

Usually not. You probably have most of the required software applications, plug-ins, players and viewers pre-installed on your laptop if you receive one from OC.But at times you may be required to download certain plug-ins or other applications to help them display certain web documents. If you find an element (such as video or animation) that requires additional plug-ins, you may not be able to view certain content without having had them installed. Here are some common ones that you may need in your course in case you are not using a computer with these elements pre-installed:

  • Adobe Acrobat Reader is a free software that allows you to view Adobe Portable Document format (PDF) files.
  • Apple QuickTime player is for viewing video in Apple’s QuickTime format.
  • Microsoft PowerPoint Viewer 2007 is for viewing and printing PowerPoint presentations. Download this if you do not already have PowerPoint installed on your computer.
  • Your professor may have additional requirements on these browsers, viewers and players. Please check your syllabus to see if there are additional requirements.
